Michaela Režová (* 1992) is a filmmaker and director. In her work, she focuses on the genre of animated documentary and its forms. She graduated in animation under the guidance of Jiří Barta in Plzeň, studied animation at UMPRUM, and in 2013 she interned at the prestigious French school La Poudrière. Her thesis film Štvanice (2017) deals with the case of Czechoslovak hockey players Modrý and co. It won the main prize at the Marienbad Film Festival, was included in the Best Czech Shorts 2018 selection, and screened at several festivals. In 2024, she created the multimedia documentary exhibition The Art of Movement: Sports – Politics – Culture in the Work of Zdeněk Němeček at the UM Gallery in Prague, with an extensive accompanying program. In recent years, she worked as creative director on projects such as Design and Transformation: Stories of Czech Design 1900–2020 – six animated films for an exhibition in Brussels (Best Czech Animated Commission – Anifilm 2023) or The History of the 20th Century – a 360° film projection for the National Museum in Prague. She is behind the research and preparation of the exhibition and publication for the 70th anniversary of the animation studio at UMPRUM. Michaela is the founder of the platform f-a-t.cz, which brings content from the world of animated film. At UMPRUM, she currently co-leads the Animation and Film studio, teaches the theory and history of animation, and is completing her doctoral studies with an artistic research project on the topic: Animated Documentary – Oral History and the Author's Approach.
