Réka Bucsi: Space glows with color

In this episode, we talk with Hungarian animation superstar Réka Bucsi — director, animator, and visual artist whose breakout short Symphony no. 42 premiered at Berlinale in 2014 and launched her onto the international stage. She shares insights into her creative process, which is rooted in automatic drawing and writing, and we dive into her current work-in-progress feature The Great Silence. As Annecy celebrates Hungarian animation this year, Réka reflects on what unites animators from her home country, memories from her studies in Budapest, and her thoughts on navigating a male-dominated industry — including why she believes quotas still matter.

„I try not to overthink and over conceptualized my ideas, because then they become stiff.“
